Stocks Mixed on Greek Rescue Hopes

Category : Business, Stocks

NEW YORK (TheStreet) — U.S. stocks were trading mixed Friday as investors weighed growing hope about a Greek bailout against a negative outlook from Chinese Internet stock Baidu.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was rising 43.7 points, or 0.3%, at 12,948, inching closer and closer to the psychological 13,000 threshold. Intel, Du Pont and Merck were leading the gains on the blue-chip index, while Alcoa, Bank of America and Microsoft were the biggest losers.

The S&P 500 was up 2.7 points, or 0.2%, at 1361. The index has advanced 8.1% year to date on increasing optimism about the U.S. economy and the ability of Europe to stem its debt crisis. Financials and utilities were the biggest sector gainers Friday, while technology and basic materials were leading the losses.
