LDP presidential hopeful Machimura hospitalized

Former Foreign Minister Nobutaka Machimura, who is standing in the Liberal Democratic Party’s presidential election, has been hospitalized after falling sick earlier this week, the lawmaker heading his support group said Wednesday.
It is not known yet whether Machimura, 67, will withdraw from the main opposition party’s leadership race and he is currently undergoing medical checks following his hospitalization on Tuesday, Hiroyuki Hosoda, a former LDP secretary general, said in Tokyo.
